Books 2015: Tigers in Red Weather- Liza Klaussmann

Tigers in Red Weather (Jan)

This had been on my wishlist for ages (I remember a big push on Twitter a couple of years ago and never got round to picking up a copy) and Benn got me it for Christmas.

It tells the story of two cousins, Nick and Helena, and tracks their lives through the 40’s to the 60’s and how one summer changed their lives and the lives around them. It’s a glorious novel that’s full of jazz, booze and scandalous bathing suits and I loved it. It was a bit of a slow starter, but once I got into it, I couldn’t put it down.

The structure of the novel is interesting- it’s told from various points of view, meaning  that we see the same events through different eyes and with different interpretations. The breakdown of a family makes more sense, the behaviour of other characters is clarified and I came away feeling satisfied after finishing the novel. A really good read to start the year.
